Trevor Chan Keng Guan
Dr Trevor is a local Sabahan who completed his medical degree in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, subsequently acquired his membership of College of Anaesthesiologist Ireland before completing his study in Universiti Malaya for Master in Anaesthesiology.
He is proficient in R programming specifically in analysing network meta-analysis and won him a second prize in poster presentation in 2024 Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologist Annual Scientific Congress.
His field of interest in anaesthesiology are pain medicine, regional anaesthesia, ambulatory anaesthesia and non-operative room anaesthesia. He firmly believes in educating the next generation doctors and started the first monthly regional anaesthesia scan class in Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
He is currently an anaesthesiologist in Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He had served in Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Hospital Keningau, Hospital Tenom, Hospital Queen Elizabeth 2, Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-kanak Sabah, Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya, Hospital Shah Alam and Hospital Beaufort with various duration before. These experiences allow him to have a unique insight on his topic in Global Surgery Conference.
Abstract
This year theme on Global Surgery Conference “Forging Ahead: Bridging Gaps in Global Surgery” is about narrowing the gaps and increase patients access to surgical care.
Sabah state is a suitable place to discuss this matter as health care accessibility are not only challenged by geographical factor but also facilities, equipment and availability of specialty trained doctor.
Presenter wishes to share insights regarding challenges and potential solution in providing quality anaesthetic care, prehabilitation and assessment of at-risk patient to ensure patient receive highest standard of perioperative care in district hospital.
In this presentation, the role of regional anaesthesia in bridging the gaps of surgical services access for at-risk patient is discussed and recommendation in setting up regional anaesthesia service is included.
